My small home studio is based on the edge of the New Forest in Hampshire, UK. All of my pieces are handmade with slabs or coils of clay, which are individually shaped and built up during the forming process. I then spend time trimming, smoothing and finishing each piece to achieve the desired finish. I use a mix of my own glazes and commercial glazes, often layering several glazes in multiple layers to produce truly unique finishes. Pieces are then fired twice up to 1225 degrees Celsius, with each firing taking up to 36 hours to heat and cool down. 

I never use a potter's wheel as I love the individual and unique quality that is achieved when a piece is made entirely by my own hand. In this way each piece I produce is truly one of a kind. With so many of the functional and decorative items we own today emerging perfectly from their pre-formed moulds or factory production lines it seems particularly special to be making objects that celebrate their imperfections, something which we should perhaps apply to more of the objects in our everyday lives.

My inspiration comes from my own love of handmade ceramics and a desire to produce simple, functional forms that would make a beautiful and practical addition to anyone's home. I am most inspired by functional, contemporary ceramics that still retain an element of delicacy and simplicity in their design and form. There is something quite magical in the transformation of a shapeless piece of clay into a finished piece that is both beautiful and desirable, all through the quiet, methodical and careful workings of a potter’s hands.
